We turned down investors so you could trust us
No venture capital. No advertising. No data deals. Subscriptions cover operations. Donations fund the things that make us trustworthy: independent audits, robust infrastructure, and a free tier that actually stays free.
What your support funds
Every dollar goes toward the work of building and sustaining a privacy tool that does not compromise on security or independence.
Independent security audit
A full cryptographic audit of the PQ library by a qualified external firm. Audits from reputable security labs run $20,000–$50,000. This is non-negotiable for a product people rely on to protect sensitive communications.
Relay infrastructure
Blind relay servers across multiple jurisdictions. The servers route encrypted packets without keys — they cannot read your calls — but they still require hardware, bandwidth, and maintenance.
Client development
Six platform clients — macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, and web — maintained in parallel is a significant engineering effort for a small, intentionally lean team with no payroll from investors.
Free tier sustainability
The free tier exists because private communication should not require a credit card. It is not a loss leader or a data funnel. Donations help ensure it stays real.
How to donate
Common questions
Are donations tax-deductible?
Not currently. SpeakEasy is a for-profit entity, not a 501(c)(3). If tax deductibility matters to you, Open Collective may offer fiscal sponsorship options through their host organizations — check their platform for details.
Can my company sponsor SpeakEasy?
Yes. For corporate sponsorships, infrastructure partnerships, or Barrelhouse enterprise licensing, reach out at hello@speakeasy.app. Corporate sponsors receive acknowledgement on the website and in release notes if desired.
What if I can't donate but want to help?
Tell someone. Share the security page with a lawyer, journalist, doctor, or executive who should care about Harvest Now, Decrypt Later. A conversation with the right person is worth more than most donations.
